There are many subdivisions of games within billiards sports, like carom billiard which is played on tables without pockets. In Hong Kong, the two most popular billiard games are snooker and pool. Below are some high-level introductions of the two games:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Snooker:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Snooker is played on a larger table with tighter pockets compared to a pool table. The object of the game is to achieve a higher score than the opponent in order to win. Different colours of the balls are assigned different values for the purpose of scoring.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pool :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are many variations of games played on a standard pool table. Popular pool games in Hong Kong include 8-ball, 9-ball, 10-ball.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\uff3b8-ball\uff3d<\/strong>Other than the cue ball, there are 7 solid balls (numbered 1 to 7), 7 striped balls (numbered 9 to 15) and the numbered 8 ball on the table. If a player first pots a certain type of ball, the player shall only be allowed to pot that type of ball, and the other player shall pot the other type. Every time the player shall use the cue ball to first make contact with the correct type of balls and may pot a ball of the correct type. After the player has potted all the balls of the correct type, the player shall pot the numbered 8 ball to the nominated pocket to win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\uff3b9-ball\uff3d<\/strong>On each shot the cue ball must first contact the lowest-numbered ball on the table, but the lowest-numbered ball needs not be pocketed. The player wins the game when the 9-ball is validly pocketed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\uff3b10-ball\uff3d<\/strong>On each shot the cue ball must first contact the lowest-numbered ball on the table, but the lowest-numbered ball needs not be pocketed. The main difference from 9-ball is that the player must nominate the ball to be pocketed and the pocket before making the pot.
